WordPress, Joomla or Drupal: which one is better?

Digital Tools

One of the factors that define the success of a website is the CMS that is used for its construction. WordPress, Joomla and Drupal are some of the most popular options, but which one is the best?

Content Management Systems are platforms that allow you to create and manage websites. To make the important decision to choose the CMS that will allow you to design and administer a site, it is advisable to inquire about what the best-known platforms on the market offer and these are: WordPress, Joomla and Drupal.

Although it is true that these managers share some characteristics, each of them has strengths in different areas. Beyond determining which one is the best, the idea is to locate which one adapts to the needs and requirements of the user and the site you want to create, in order to make the most of its potential in favor of the project.

Let’s briefly see some common points between WordPress, Joomla and Drupal:

– Their main functions are to publish and manage content.

– They are developed in PHP language and use MySQL databases.

– They have programs that amplify the functionalities that content managers have by default. In WordPress they are called plugins, in Joomla they are extensions and in Drupal, modules.

– They possess a great variety of templates or themes with predetermined designs and structures, to be configured as a website interface.

– They are based on Open Source. So, they can be downloaded for free and installed through the same process.

Let’s talk a little about each of them separately:

WordPress

WordPress is undoubtedly the king of CMS in terms of fame, more than 35% of Internet sites are made with this manager.

One of the reasons for this is that WordPress doesn’t require one to have technical knowledge of web development, so it can be easily used by beginners. Its interface is friendly and intuitive.

In addition to this, it has more than 50,000 plugins related to internal architecture, design, optimization, speed and almost anything else that users need.

On the other hand, it is important to note that WordPress is especially efficient regarding Search Engine Positioning (SEO).

Joomla

Joomla ranks second in popularity behind WordPress. It requires a little more dedication and effort when interacting with your dashboard, but that’s proportional to the quantity and quality of features it provides by default.

This system gives access to some 8,000 extensions and various themes to personalize the website, but you must locate them on your own because there is no official library or directory for it.

Drupal

Drupal is designed assuming that the user has basic knowledge of web development. For example, to use your text editor it is essential to handle HTML because certain functions are not available and must be added on behalf of the interested person.

This CMS stands out in the advanced administration options, it has around 40,000 module options to complement the tasks and it is highly scalable and light in resources.

In comparison, WordPress can be said to be a beginner’s favorite for its ease of use, while Joomla is more geared towards web designers and has more default functions.

In the case of Drupal, it is the favorite of programmers and includes much deeper configuration options than those of its adversaries.

Finally, the question you should ask yourself is not which is the best CMS, but which is the best CMS for you.
